Corvettes at Carlisle presented by eBay Motors celebrated its 40^th Anniversary in 2022 and its only fitting that the August 25-27 event also became the single biggest Corvettes at Carlisle ever!  With a Fun Field turnout of 2,926 Corvettes, this year’s offering topped 2019 and furthered the legend that is the biggest and best all-Corvette car show in the world!

Gates opened at 7 a.m. on Thursday the 25th for the three-day celebration of America’s Sports Car and it was obvious early on that the event would be history making.  Guests were on-site before the sun came up and not only was Canada represented for the first time since 2019, but nearly 40 other states were too.  There were even guests at Carlisle from the Netherlands.  They came for the camaraderie, they came to meet Team Chevrolet and see their new cars, they came to shop for parts, they came for the seminars and guests, and they even came to see the special displays.

Displays for 2022 included a Chip’s Choice collection that hosted a half dozen Pratt & Miller Factory Racing Corvettes plus retired Corvette Racing crew chief Dan Binks.  There was also a 50^th spotlight of 1972 Corvettes, and even a 35^th gathering of Callaway Cars.  Best of all, Pete Callaway and his dad Reeves were on-site to mix and mingle with their namesake cars and their owners.  The NCRS and NCCC also welcomed some of the best of the best Corvettes as part of their respective area. 

Competitions were also a big part of the show, including People’s Choice/Best of Show presented by Aerolarri Wheels, King of the X autocross presented by Lingenfelter Performance, a rolling exhaust contest, and some club contests for both largest and coolest club.  As was the case with the Callaway display, Ken Lingenfelter was on hard to be part of the recognition for the autocross winners. 

Other popular attractions included how-to seminars hosted by GM Master Technician Paul Koerner and his Corvette Mechanic team, a Cheers to 40 Years round table discussion, Team Chevrolet interactions at their tent, their flood of Z06 Corvettes and 70^th Anniversary C8 Corvette walk-arounds at the stage, and the always well attended autograph sessions.

Corvettes at Carlisle also hosted some charity elements by way of the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation (CMAF).  On Friday, the CMAF held its annual benefit dinner where nearly $40,000 was raised by way of donations, door prizes, and raffles.  In addition, via a partnership with the Lancaster County Corvette Club, a 2022 2LT Corvette C8 was awarded.  Dollars raised from that giveaway supported both the CMAF and Clare House.

It all wrapped up with an awards presentation at the stage on Saturday afternoon for contest winners, followed by the on-site awards parade.  From there, nearly 500 Corvettes roared off grounds and into the community as part of the Downtown Carlisle Corvette Parade and Street Party.  An estimated crowd of nearly 5,000 spectators, including many children, watched in amazement as they not only saw the wheels in motion, but were able to pose for photos in front of or sit in the cars too.

While Corvettes at Carlisle has concluded for 2022, plans are ongoing for the 2023 event.  The showcase returns August 24-26 and will feature a 50^th Anniversary of 1973 Corvettes, NCCC 7-Sanctions judging, the NCRS Gallery and a TBA Chip’s Choice display.  Registration is now open and complete info will be forthcoming online at CarlisleEvents.com. 

The Carlisle Truck Nationals presented by A&A Auto Stores has been taking place at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds since 1991.  During that time, participation has fluctuated, with the occasional new Showfield record being set.  What’s occurred for this event spanning the last ten years and more so the last two, has been nothing short of amazing.  Dating back to 2013, this gathering of all things truck has more than doubled and in 2022 (August 5-7), a new Showfield record was set with 2,595 registered rides, including a new record of 213 big rigs as part of the Big Rig Show and Shine.  This is the second consecutive year a truck Showfield record was set and overall, the event has seen a nearly 900 truck increase since 2019.

Gates opened at 7 a.m. daily for families, truck owners, and truck lovers from the region to enjoy all that the event had to offer.  This included a low truck “skate parade,” tractor parade, multiple competitions for drivers, and displays indoors and out that featured some of the coolest trucks on the planet.  Many first-time participants marveled at the diverse make up of the Showfield; from tractors to mini trucks, cool custom vans to fire trucks, lifted monsters to chopped originals, the event really had it all.  There were even parts shopping options within the automotive flea market and midway, plus installs by way of A&A Auto Stores

In addition, the Monster Truck showcase with Diehl Wilson and his crew packed the grandstands for multiple shows between Friday and Sunday.  Wilson, known for his time piloting the Virginia Giant, served as host to rides with his truck, plus emcee as Full Boar and Bad News Travels Fast soared through the air and crushed cars.  Further, there were motorcycle stunt shows with Freestyle FMX riders and Moto Motion riders too.  The freestyle riders soared through the area showcasing their daredevil skills, while Moto Motion’s riders used their trials bikes to exhibit amazing balance and showoff some stunts of their own.

On the Big Rig side of things, not only were the trucks on display, but companies were onsite hiring and looking to fill out staffing needs.  Jobs didn’t just involve driving or having a CDL.  Companies like Lily, NAPA Transportation, S&H Express, New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company, Inc., NHH Services, Inc., FIT Transportation, and UPS were on site also looking to hire dock workers and other staff for their warehouses.

Rigs also served as the backdrop and soundtrack for Saturday’s Carlisle after dark showcase.  This evening celebration included a drop and drag contest by the low trucks, a laughter and fun filled party with the Vanners, and the Big Rig glow show.  The glow show allows guests a chance to check out the cool light displays, interiors, and sounds of the rides that help move America. 

There were a trifecta of locations spotlighting displays too.  This included Building Y (SyTys at Carlisle), Building T (S10’s, antique fire trucks, and featured display trucks), plus the pavilion (Vanarama 10).  Finally, the S10 got a little extra love at Carlisle in 2022, with a two-show spotlight as part of its 40^th anniversary (also featured at the Carlisle GM Nationals in June).
